Last night I could not go to sleep. I was up until about 3AM or even later. I had some energy work done earlier in the day so I know that contributed to it. I was up by 7AM and I was exhausted. Between clients and completing a few things that needed to get done I tried to get some sleep. It didn’t happen!
Now I was faced with a dilemma. I’ve been waiting to attend this TedxFiDiWomen Conference because the line up was so freaking amazing. The doors opened at 1:30PM, but I’m exhausted. This word just kept coming up. My body was telling me it needed to rest. I was in battle with it because I wanted to attend all of the conference.
I sat back for a moment, took a breath and asked, “What should I do?” The immediate answer was sleep and miss part of the conference. Of course even if the immediate answer was that I was torn, but soon enough I gave in. I laid down snuggled up under the covers and let my body rest. I fell asleep for 2 hours and woke up fully rejuvenated and ready to go.
I got ready and headed towards the conference. Since I allowed myself to sleep I was able to show up fully present and ready to mingle. I know if I didn’t do this I would have shown up unmotivated, exhausted and want to be by myself.
Because I honored my needs I was on a mission. I said when I arrived I would get parking close to the event so I didn’t have to walk alone at night on the dark streets. Like magic…I got parking right around the corner from the event for free. I also requested that I would like to meet Christine Arylo, Gabrielle Bernstein, Mama Gena and SARK. Christine Arylo was not speaking at the event, but was attending so among all those women how was I going to find her.
This is where the magic started unfolding. It was time for dinner and I jetted out towards the food. I said, I’m not going to mingle with my usual crowd but I’m going to meet new people. Guess who walks right behind me?? It was freaking Christine Arylo! WHAT?! So I waited for my opportunity for an opening and there it was. I approached her, we chatted and I even got a hug.
We shared a mutual laugh because she shared a video a few months back around approaching others that we might be timid to approach. Of course when you are a famous author, speaker, coach, etc like Christine there would be a bit timidness from my part, but like I’ve always heard each person on this planet has to put on their pant leg on one and a time just like I do.
I shared my story with her around that peace and we just chatted for a bit until we got to the food. And as we chatted the lovely Gabrielle Bernstein makes her way over to Christine. I got to meet her, too. As I was walking out of the food area there was Mama Gena. I gave her my thanks for her wonderful piece and said I would love to take a photo with her after she is done eating.
Last on my list was SARK. Now imagine a full packed room of women who want to speak to SARK. Every moment I went to approach her she got swarmed by women. Towards the end of the evening I saw she was getting ready to leave and I knew this was my moment. I went straight for her and gave her my gratitude.
So by honoring my needs I was able to create this magically evening and connection with these amazing women. I hope the next time when you know deep down inside that you need to honor your needs that you will do so.
